December Bakery Box

December is the most wonderful time of the year! The lights, the decorations and most importantly – the treats and family traditions! The holidays are full of delicious goodies. In our house, many of these baked goods are steeped in family tradition and memories.

For me and my family, the biggest tradition is making Lukken, a traditional Belgian cookie made for the new year to bring good luck. Until opening the bakery this year, I only made lukken for the holidays. The tradition of lukken goes back deep in my family’s Belgian history to my great-great-grandmother, Flavie, and my great-grandfather, Robert. While I never had the joy of meeting either of them, the tradition of making lukken every year makes me feel like they are standing in the kitchen next to me, with my grandfather Pa (George) who passed in 2019. Below is a picture of a lukken press that belonged to my great-grandfather, Robert, the owner and baker at the Detroit Buyse’s Bakery.

This month’s bakery sampler box is filled with tradition and love and we hope that this box brings you as much joy and happiness as it brings us to make it! Not only does this month’s box feature our traditional lukken but also Polish kolaczki, a delicious cream cheese cookie filled with apricot or raspberry jam- a nod to my Polish ancestry and my Grandpa Connie, who passed this past spring. Usually our bakery sampler box includes 6 different treats but there were so many good ones to choose from this December, that we have added 7 treats!

The December box is filled with 1 mini Challah loaf, 2 eclairs, 3 white chocolate cranberry biscotti, 4 snowball cookies, 4 gingerbread cookies, 4 Polish kolaczki and 6 lukken!

Order your December bakery box by Monday, December 7th for delivery on the morning of Saturday, December 12th.
